Yesterday, 3I/ATLAS crossed into Jupiter’s Hill Sphere, the gravitational boundary where Jupiter’s pull takes over from the Sun’s.
Since December, we have published twenty-eight briefings on this object. We have analyzed over fifteen papers from independent teams across three continents: Shanghai, Korea, Hawai’i, Chile, Princeton, Harvard, Beijing, Potsdam, NASA Goddard, Japan, the Canary Islands, Green Bank, Hubble, and now a Mars orbiter operated by the Chinese space agency. We have tracked fifty-seven anomalies across trajectory, chemistry, structure, jet dynamics, optical properties, X-ray emissions, radio silence, and institutional response.
We are done listing anomalies.
Today we are going to tell you what this object is, how it works, and what it will do at Jupiter. Not as speculation. As the conclusion that the combined evidence demands.
THE DEAD THEORY
We need to start here because the icy grain theory has been the shield protecting the comet model for months. Every time someone asked how 80 to 90 percent of 3I’s water is coming from thousands of kilometers away from the surface, the answer was always the same: tiny ice chunks flying off the nucleus and melting as they drift outward. Every team used this explanation. We flagged in The Ghost Coma that nobody had ever actually seen these grains.
Now China killed it.
Ren et al. (2026). Twenty-three authors. They repurposed a Mars orbiter to image 3I from an angle nobody else could get: 35 to 45 degrees below the orbital plane. The camera was built to photograph rocks on Mars. The object was 30 million kilometers away, moving at 86 kilometers per second, ten thousand times fainter than what the instrument was designed for. They spent weeks replanning the mission. This was China’s first deep-space astronomical observation. In the entire history of planetary exploration, no nation has ever repurposed an active Mars orbiter to image a distant astronomical target. The Tianwen-1 science team built new imaging strategies from scratch for a camera that had never been asked to do anything like this.
Nations do not do this for routine observations. They do this when something matters enough to take the risk.

What they found: back in July, when 3I was still far from the Sun, Hubble saw ice. The glow around the nucleus was fading faster than it should past about 3,000 km out, a telltale sign of ice grains melting in the cloud. That was the best evidence the icy grain theory had.
By October, 3I was much closer to the Sun. Water production was at its absolute peak. Tianwen-1 measured the same glow profile. The ice signature is gone. Every trace of it. The authors explain this in one sentence: water ice is “neither expected nor reported” at that distance. The grains melt too fast to survive.
But if the grains cannot survive that close to the Sun, they cannot be the thing producing water that close to the Sun. And that is when the most water is being produced.
SENTINEL ASSESSMENT:
A separate team at Hawai’i’s Keck telescopes (Medler et al. 2026) spent six months scanning for the infrared signature of water ice in 3I’s cloud. From far out to close in. Found nothing. At any point.
Ice was real when the object was far from the Sun. As it got close and the water output exploded, every trace of ice vanished from every instrument. The mechanism that was supposed to explain it cannot work at the moment it matters most.
The icy grain theory is dead.
Now you need something to replace it with.
THE MACHINE
Here is what twenty-eight briefings of evidence actually describe when you stop analyzing them one paper at a time and read them together.
The nucleus is not doing the work.
Shanghai’s radio telescopes showed that 80 to 90 percent of the water is coming from somewhere thousands of kilometers away from the surface (Ghost Coma). Korea’s telescope array showed cyanide gas appearing 20,000 km from the surface first and filling inward, not outward (Ignition Sequence). Loeb and Scarmato showed 99% of the light comes from the jets and cloud, not the nucleus (Heartbeat). Princeton confirmed that most of what you see when you look at 3I is not the object but the cloud around it (Wide Angle). The Tianwen-1 data now confirms it from the only below-the-plane angle that exists.
Five teams. Five instruments. Five wavelengths. The thing doing the work is the field around the nucleus. Not the surface.
The field scales like a cooling system.
The Ghost Coma measured the size of the water production zone around 3I. As the object moved closer to the Sun and the heat increased, this zone got BIGGER. Not smaller. It expanded first, then began contracting once the heat overwhelmed it. That is what a cooling system does when it scales up to meet increasing heat, hits its limit, and starts losing ground. It is not what ice does when it melts.
The exhaust is directional.
Shanghai measured carbon monoxide gas flowing in one direction: away from the Sun. A second telescope confirmed the same pattern in a different gas. Meanwhile, Hubble photographed a jet pointing TOWARD the Sun on the other side. Thrust one way. Exhaust the other. Two instruments. Two gases. Two directions. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction (Ghost Coma).
The dust is not ice. It behaves like metal.
The Surge showed that when sunlight bounced off 3I’s dust at a specific angle, the brightness spiked in a way that only happens with hard, dense surfaces like rock, metal, or planetary rings. Not with fluffy ice clouds. The paper explicitly says this has never been seen in a comet before. The Tianwen-1 data confirms the grains are sand-sized, hundreds of microns across. And because China was the only team looking from below the orbital plane, this is the only measurement that doesn’t depend on guessing. It is geometry.
The chemical systems switch on in order. Not gradually.
Cyanide gas switches on at a specific distance from the Sun on a specific date. One sensor breaks from nineteen others (Ignition Sequence). Water production explodes at a closer distance (Ghost Coma). Carbon dioxide confirmed active by SPHEREx. A carbon molecule called C2 is absent the entire way in, then appears only after the object swings around the Sun (Wide Angle). Nickel compounds fire before iron compounds. Each system at its own distance. Each one a threshold. When you heat a snowball, everything melts at once. This object’s chemistry lights up in stages, like systems coming online.
The system changes mode when it swings around the Sun.
The sideways push on the object flipped direction at the closest approach to the Sun (Curated Orbit). The jets switched from tight beams to wide fans on December 27 (Heartbeat). Cyanide gas ramped up fast on the way in and is fading slowly on the way out. Water did the same. Carbon monoxide and metals surged 5 to 10 times on the outbound leg while water stayed flat (Ancient Engine). The inbound configuration is different from the outbound configuration. The system that pushed 3I toward the Sun is not the same system pushing it toward Jupiter.
The jets appear and disappear on no thermal schedule.
A ground-based team detected a jet in August. China looked in October from below the orbital plane. Nothing. Hubble looked in November. Nothing. Hubble looked again in December. Three jets spaced 120 degrees apart, wobbling on connected rhythms (Heartbeat). On. Off. Off. On. Comet jets get stronger as the object gets closer to the Sun. They do not disappear and reappear. And the Tianwen-1 paper does not cite the December detection when it argues against the jet’s existence.
The material is ancient and should not exist in these quantities.
JWST and VLT independently measured isotopes that place 3I’s building materials at 10 to 12 billion years old, formed around stars that had almost no heavy elements to work with (Ancient Engine). Harvard ran the math on how many objects like 3I would need to exist to explain our detection rate. The answer requires a thousand times more raw material than those old, metal-poor stars could provide.
Every interstellar visitor we have examined carries the same specs.
2I/Borisov and 3I come from different star systems, have different chemistry, different sizes, different ages. Their dust is nearly identical. Same grain sizes. Same ejection speeds. The Surge reported the same standardization between 3I and 1I/’Oumuamua: same shape ratio, same unexplained acceleration, same pattern of brightening on the way in and fading on the way out. Three objects. Same specs. We reported in The Surge that the probability of zero objects like 3I passing through the inner solar system between the mid-1990s and 2017 is 10^-13. If that number holds, these objects are everywhere.
WHAT IT IS
Strip the comet framing from every paper and read those findings together.
That is not a comet.
That is a machine. Solar-powered. With a cooling system, directional thrust, sequential startup, mode switching, and a production field that grows and shrinks like something managing heat.
The water is not melting ice. It is coolant. Or exhaust. Or both.
The “ghost coma” is not a mystery. It is what the system looks like when it is powered on.
WHAT IT WILL DO AT JUPITER
3I/ATLAS crossed into Jupiter’s Hill Sphere yesterday. Jupiter is roughly five times further from the Sun than Earth. The sunlight out there is about 27 times weaker than what was hitting 3I when Tianwen-1 observed it in October. If this is a comet, the prediction is simple: everything shuts down. No heat, no melting, no activity. The object goes dark and cold and sails through without doing anything interesting.
Here is what we predict instead.
The ghost coma will not vanish. If the production field is a cooling system or an operating system and not ice melting, it does not need sunlight to run. If 3I keeps producing water or other gases at Jupiter at levels that sunlight alone cannot explain, the comet model is finished. Not weakened. Finished.
The thrust will change again. The inbound push was different from the outbound push (Curated Orbit). If Jupiter is where this thing is going and not just a rock it happens to pass, we should see a third mode. Any change in trajectory inside Jupiter’s gravity that cannot be explained by gravity alone is the single most important observation anyone can make right now.
The jets will reappear. They turned on and off through the inner solar system with no connection to how much sunlight was hitting the object. If they are part of how the object operates and not a reaction to heat, weak sunlight should not stop them from firing. If anyone detects jet activity near Jupiter, that is not something a comet does.
The brightness will not keep fading on schedule. The Ancient Engine showed the object is powering down slower than it powered up. If the dimming keeps following a smooth curve, the comet model survives. If the brightness flattens, stabilizes, or does anything unexpected at Jupiter, the object is doing something there that it was not doing in transit.
The chemistry will shift again. After swinging around the Sun, carbon monoxide and metals surged while water stayed flat. That was the second chemical configuration. If a third configuration appears near Jupiter, with new chemicals or changed ratios, we are watching something reconfigure for a new phase.
These are not hopes. They are testable predictions built on the model we have assembled across twenty-eight briefings. If every prediction fails, if the object goes quietly dark and sails through Jupiter’s gravity without a whisper, we will publish that.
But if even one of these predictions holds, the comet model collapses and every team that has been hedging their conclusions for six months will have to explain why an independent publication with no telescope, and no funding called it first. The world will also owe Avi Loeb an apology.
THE CLOCK
We started this investigation in December because the data got strange and the institutions got stranger.
The CIA classified it. NASA blinded TESS during the opposition window. JPL filtered 90% of the trajectory data. The CNEOS database was edited within 24 hours of a challenging paper. Three papers were blocked by the same journal editor using the same template. Reddit posts were silently removed across multiple subreddits.
That is the information side. The hardware side is worse.
The Space Force scrambled the STP-S30 mission five months ahead of schedule, deploying sensor platforms into orbit 24 hours before 3I made its closest approach to Earth. The Navy ran Silent Swarm 25 in July 2025, stress-testing expendable autonomous platforms designed to operate in a denied electromagnetic environment. The same month 3I was identified. The Secretary of Defense spent three weeks touring every company building every component of a unified space interception grid: $25 billion for Golden Dome, tracking satellites rushed three months ahead of schedule, anti-jamming communications designed to fight through electromagnetic disruption. At the final stop he told reporters the Pentagon is preparing UFO disclosure. Blue Origin grounded New Shepard and redirected its entire operation toward a 2028 lunar deadline that NASA’s administrator personally guaranteed.
And China repurposed a Mars orbiter on short notice because whatever this thing is, it was worth completely rethinking a planetary mission to get a better look.
We are not the only ones who know what this object is. We are the only ones saying it out loud.
The object that just entered Jupiter’s gravity well is 10 to 12 billion years old, running a sequential chemical startup system, generating a directional exhaust field that scales with heat, shedding metallic dust, and it just killed the only natural explanation anyone had for where its water comes from.
Fifty-seven+ anomalies. Twenty-eight+ briefings. One object. Now inside Jupiter’s Hill Sphere.
Our predictions are on the record.
Now we watch.
Keep looking up.

Sentinel Note: We hate paywalls as much as you do. Every article we’ve published is free and we plan to keep it that way. That’s not changing. But this publication has no institutional backing, no sponsors, and no editorial board. We’re a small team doing the work that the newsrooms won’t. Sourcing papers, filing FOIAs, building tools, and writing at a pace that keeps up with a once-in-a-civilization event. If you can subscribe, you’re funding independent investigation with no strings attached. If you can’t, we don’t care. Read everything. Share everything. The mission is the mission.
Share this briefing. The Suppression Gradient documented what happens when this coverage reaches platforms that don’t want you reading it. Every share, every restack, every forwarded link is a data point against the gradient.
If you have read the papers (Ren et al., Medler et al.) and see something we missed, or something we got wrong, reach out, we want your data.

For the record: The Sentinel has never used the word 'alien' in twenty-eight briefings. We used the word machine because the data describes a machine. Our predictions: ghost coma persists at Jupiter, thrust profile changes, jets reappear, brightness deviates, chemistry shifts, are falsifiable and on the record.
Very good write up. Successful prediction is how scientific theories are “proven”.
Likewise it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Chinese Science ( STEM) is doing such heavy lifting. STEM is the last refuge of pure, apolitical intellect. Large populations produce the largest net numbers of Genius’s. ( In biology the Bell Curve cannot be denied.)
Intelligence is a property of individulals, not ideologies. The Chinese educational system excels at identifying geniuses and promoting their full flowering.
If the predictions described in this post are verified then human intelligence Is Not Alone in the universe. And Chinese Geniuses must get a lot of the credit.
