THE WEEK
Last Tuesday we printed a date: the fifth tranche window opens Friday. On Friday, August 7, the Department of War published the fifth PURSUE release. Five tranches, five Fridays.
The earnings season closed the day before, and it closed on our rule. ATI delivered its strongest quarter since 2007 and jumped 14 percent, the biggest single-name reward of the entire season. Howmet beat the high end of its own guidance on every line and went nowhere, its multiple having already spent the news. Kratos, which reported the previous night, raised its growth guidance and ran 32 percent in two weeks. The names that were docked in July for their capital bills started getting the money back: General Dynamics round-tripped its slide, and Northrop kept climbing.
The board’s other Friday winner was AeroVironment, which landed a $400 million Army laser award and jumped 9 percent, the directed-energy catalyst the July upgrade cycle promised.
Below: the fifth Friday and the supercut, the season’s final scoreboard, the prediction-market read after the drop, and all seven open calls. Prices are as of the August 10 close unless labeled otherwise.
THE FIFTH FRIDAY
A metronome is only proven when you call the next click before it lands. We called Friday. It clicked Friday.
