THE WEEK
Last issue we wrote that a beat is the price of admission, not the payoff, and that the market had stopped grading headlines and started grading guidance, margin, and cash. Northrop had just proven the punishment side of that rule.
This week the market proved the payoff side. Three more names on or adjacent to the board reported, and the ones that showed cash and orders got paid immediately and in size. Lockheed Martin delivered the largest single-week move any prime on this board has printed this earnings season. The one name that had been punished got its money back: Northrop round-tripped its entire post-earnings sell-off in four sessions.
The second half of the gauntlet now compresses into 48 hours. General Dynamics reports Wednesday morning, L3Harris Wednesday after the close, Carpenter Technology and Huntington Ingalls both Thursday. BWX Technologies follows Monday, August 3, with ATI and Howmet on August 6.
Below: the payoff with verified prices, a disclosure pause with a pattern in it, prediction markets that keep cooling, and the open-call status across all seven signals. Prices are labeled with their session dates, July 22 through the morning of July 28.
THE PAYOFF
The market posted the answer key this week. It was written in cash flow.
